Health care package included in stopgap funding bill

The health portion contains pharmaceutical benefit manager (PBM) industry reforms, extensions of Medicare telehealth flexibilities, reauthorizations of legislation to prevent pandemics and address the opioid crisis, payments to community health centers, a rollback of physician payment cuts and other policies. 

The inclusion of more than 500 pages of health provisions in a spending bill will likely infuriate some conservatives, who generally oppose omnibus legislation. But the health provisions show bipartisan agreement after significant back-and-forth between Republicans and Democrats…

CVS sued for deceiving consumers in sale of homeopathic remedies – Science-Based Medicine

A lawsuit claiming pharmacy chain giant CVS fraudulently deceives consumers in the sale of worthless homeopathic remedies was filed in late June by the Center for Inquiry (CFI), acting on behalf of the general public. The suit seeks both damages and an injunction against CVS’s deceptive marketing practices in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, alleging violations of the District’s consumer protection act.....

Yesterday's report by the Wall Street Journal that CVS Health was "in talks" to buy health insurer Aetna sent ripples through much of the healthcare realm. The combination of CVS Health, the seventh-biggest company in the U.S. by revenue, with Aetna (No. 43 on the Fortune 500) would, if it were to go through, create a corporate behemoth with $240 billion in annual revenue across a wide swath of the healthcare continuum, from retail pharmacy and benefit management to insurance. ....
