Opinion | I’m a Conservative Economist. Here Are 6 Reasons Trump’s Plans Won’t Work. - POLITICO

"If you are a deficit hawk only when addressing the other side's priorities, then you aren't a deficit hawk. You are just grabbing whatever rhetorical weapon is nearest to defeat the other party.

What's more, as we've already seen, none of this is going to fool the markets, particularly the bond market, whose recent gyrations suggest investors' faith in the stability of the U.S. government has been shaken..."

Rogan-Rufo Reality Check (Conspirituality podcast, episode #200)

This week we take stock of the full entrenchment of the Mirror World, where conspirituality influencers bask in the rays of confident delusion. After a little stage-setting on the heterodox mediasphere, we open with a snapshot of conspirituality Valhalla as we listen in on Joe Rogan and Chris Rufo talking about unhoused people as though they are children who haven’t been given good boundaries.

Then we’ll look at four instances in which the spectacle brokers meet reality. What happens when Chaya Raichik gets bodied by Taylor Lorenz? What happens when the Moms for Liberty have to explain themselves on 60 minutes? What happens when Destiny rejects Jordan Peterson’s bullshit? And what happens when the mack daddy of it all, Alex Jones, gets confronted by Sandy Hook parents, face to face? Does reality break through?

Opinion | The GOP’s ideology doesn’t match economic reality. Just ask Nobel Prize winner David Card. - The Washington Post

…We see other instances in which right-wing ideology leads to faulty economic conclusions. For months, Republicans and many in the media who parroted their arguments insisted generous unemployment benefits were keeping people from working. (This assumes people are lazy and more inclined to get something for nothing.) Sure enough, this turned out to be dead wrong…

Pitts: Mike Pence shows his inability to deal with reality

…And on Jan. 6 of this year, a mob of them broke into the U.S. Capitol. They injured police officers. They drove Congress from its own house. They looted government property. They called for federal officials — including you — to be lynched. They smeared feces on the walls.
But you say it's "the media" who are demeaning the supporters of that Florida man who used to be president?…

Opinion | This Putsch Was Decades in the Making - The New York Times

...For a long time Republican elites imagined that they could exploit racism and conspiracy theorizing while remaining focused on a plutocratic agenda. But with the rise first of the Tea Party, then of Donald Trump, the cynics found that the crazies were actually in control, and that they wanted to destroy democracy, not cut tax rates on capital gains...

How America Got Divorced from Reality: Christian Utopias, Anti-Elitism, Media Circus

Since a boat of religious fanatics with buckles on their hats hit the shores near Plymouth Rock and claimed that this was their utopia, America has always been a little bit crazy. It's this kind of wide-eyed "anything can happen if you believe" mentality that, at its best, can produce incredible art. But at its worst, it can be cruel and conspiratorial. We live in a country where people refuse to believe vaccination can help you and where a White House is spinning "alternative — but Kurt Andersen is here to say that this is nothing now. At the time of the Civil War, society had become split by two sides that refused to listen to each other. Back then, the political and social divide is stoked by a hyperbolic partisan media where anyone could publish whatever they wanted in a pamphlet without fact-checking. Sound familiar? It definitely should. Kurt's latest book is appropriately titled Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire....

In debate, president takes a trip to a strange place: Trump Land

... The problem, of course, is that Trump Land bears no resemblance to our reality. These presidential claims weren't just exaggerations or misleading spins; they were ridiculous falsehoods, peddled by an incumbent who should've been able to point to real-world successes...

GOP portrayal of urban mayhem doesn't always match reality - ABC News

At almost every turn at the Republican National Convention, speakers from the president on down portrayed American cities like Portland, Oregon, New York and Chicago as lawless Democratic wastelands that have been overrun with violence, looting and destruction that is forcing residents to flee for safer locales. The reality on the ground is much more nuanced. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/gop-portrayal-urban-mayhem-match-reality-72696786

Wolff Responds Capitalist Reality vs Conservative Ideology - YouTube

In this video, Prof. Wolff comments on the recent scandal surrounding the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) rolled out by the government to help businesses affected by the Coronavirus outbreak. The largest beneficiaries of the program have been the very same people who oppose and condemn government support. Yet another grotesque example of big capitalists making money at everybody else's expense.
