Why so many American Jews are turning away from Israel

For generations, support for Israel was central to Jewish-American identity. But today, amid accusations that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza, a growing generational and political divide is reshaping views in the US Jewish community. Matthew Cassel travels to New York City – the heart of Jewish-American life – to explore how Israel’s wars across multiple fronts are challenging long-held traditions and dividing families...

Christian defends slaughtering children - Doesn't Go Well (Jon Cohen; Unconvinced on YouTube)

What happens when someone calmly tries to justify God commanding the killing of children? In this live debate, a Christian caller attempts to defend some of the Bible’s darkest passages — including genocide, child killing, and eternal punishment.

The conversation escalates fast.

If morality means anything at all, it cannot suddenly stop applying when the character in question is called “God.”

"Genocide Joshua" (Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast) It's in the Code ep 183

The third role Josh Hawley tells us that men are called to play is that of "warrior".

But what does that mean? Where might we look for an exemplar? One of Josh Hawley's answers is another Joshua, the figure from the Hebrew Bible, tasked with reclaiming the "Promised Land" for the Israelites.

But the biblical book of Joshua commands the "utter destruction" of the inhabitants of the land, raising profound concerns about genocide and ethnic cleansing. Is this really the model of masculinity Hawley says we should follow?

Listen to this week's episode to hear Dan's discussion of how Hawley responds, and what this tells us about "manhood" as he imagines it.

Young lives cut short on an unimaginable scale: the 18,457 children on Gaza’s list of war dead

The children's names below appear on a list of victims of Israel's offensive in Gaza, maintained by health authorities in the territory. As of the end of July it ran to 60,199 names, of whom 18,457 were under 18s. Far from comprehensive, the list does not include the thousands still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings, as well as the war's many indirect victims…

Weekly Roundup: “Starve Away” + New Trump Policy Encourages Christians to Proselytize at Work (Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast)

Brad and Dan tackle two urgent developments shaping the intersection of politics and religion in America. They begin with the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, examining how allegations of genocide—now echoed by Israeli human rights groups—are forcing fractures within the GOP, with figures like Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene offering unexpected critiques.

Brad and Dan explore how Israel’s religious nationalism and the U.S. tendency to cast Islam and Palestine as threats complicate public discourse. Then, they turn to a chilling new Trump-era memo permitting federal employees to evangelize in the workplace, unpacking its implications for religious privilege, secular rights, and the Christian nationalist agenda behind Project 2025. Along the way, they call out congressional hypocrisy, share reasons for hope in the form of abortion shield laws, and spotlight rising global recognition of Palestine and U.S.-based resistance efforts.
