Oregon must dismiss more than 1,400 criminal cases due to attorney shortage, court rules

The problem has been years in the making and has become a significant constitutional crisis, as people charged with crimes are routinely unable to fight their cases as they wait weeks, months or sometimes years for the state to appoint them lawyers. The attorney shortage – due in part to the increasing difficulty of recruiting attorneys for the low-salary, high-caseload jobs – has meant that people have had cases hanging over them for extended periods of time, impacting their housing, employment and families, advocates say.

Oregon's highest court ruled on Thursday that dismissals are required if the state failed to provide counsel within 60 days after arraignment for a misdemeanor and within 90 days for a felony...

ICE detained teenaged US citizen during school lunch break, family says

Despite telling the officers he was an American citizen, one of them broke the driver's side window and detained him. In a video shared to the outlet by Cesar Jimenez, Christian can reportedly be heard asserting his citizenship while an officer responds "get out of the car" and "I don't care."

Christian Jimenez was taken to the ICE facility in south Portland and released shortly before 7pm the same day, his brother said. Cesar Jimenez added that authorities are now attempting to charge Christian with "interference or obstruction of investigation"...

Republicans BUSTED Using Fake Photos To Justify Trump's Portland Siege

The official Twitter account of the Oregon Republican Party was busted using fake photographs to claim that Portland is under siege by the Left and that Trump's deployment of the National Guard was necessary. The only problem is that the pictures weren't from Portland, or from the US, or even from this year. Some of the pictures were nearly 20 years old and featured riot police in South America - obviously not modern-day Portland. The Oregon GOP deleted the post after being called out, but the damage has already been done.
