The hilarious implications of the Supreme Court’s new porn decision, in Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton | Vox

Thus, if Texas wants to apply this law to Pornhub, some poor judge will have to watch much of the content on that website to determine if it has literary, artistic, political, or scientific value — and whatever that judge decides, their decision will be appealed to other judges who will have to engage in the same exercise.

Justice Thomas and his colleagues, in other words, should probably install a popcorn machine in the Supreme Court building, because they've just signed themselves up to recreate the humiliating movie days of the Court's past…

Supreme Court Says States Can Limit Access To Porn | HuffPost Latest News

"It is not, contra the majority, like having to flash ID to enter a club," Kagan wrote. "It is turning over information about yourself and your viewing habits—respecting speech many find repulsive—to a website operator, and then to ... who knows? The operator might sell the information; the operator might be hacked or subpoenaed."

“The Porn Fixation”(Bradley Onishi and Daniel Miller; Straight White American Jesus podcast; It's in the Code Episode #128)

Why are conservative, high-control Christians in America so fixated on pornography?

Why do they think it represents an apocalyptic menace, threatening to destroy the institution of the family, the church, and society itself?

What is it about the subculture of high-control religion that explains this perspective in a time when pornography use is more widespread and mainstream, and less taboo, than it has ever been?

Listen in this week as Dan offers his thoughts on these issues.

Let’s Talk About Pornography. No, Seriously. - The New York Times

In February, Dr. Bothe was an author of a paper that found that some types of pornography could affect the sexual well-being of viewers. The study, a survey of 827 young adults, found that people who watched passionate or romantic pornography reported higher sexual satisfaction in their relationships, whereas watching "power, control and rough-sex pornography was associated with lower sexual satisfaction." (The study also noted that the passionate, romantic and multipartner material was more widely viewed than the harder-core categories.)…

Project 2025’s ‘unhinged’ wish list: Criminalize porn, ban birth control

Project 2025 is a “wish list of a bunch of fringe, far-right policy proposals that I think many voters would be really horrified to learn about,” says Chris Hayes. For example, the agenda says, "Pornography should be outlawed,” and “the people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned."

In Florida, parents are always right – even when they think a Michelangelo is porn | Arwa Mahdawi | The Guardian

Bishop, by the way, denies that Carrasquilla was solely forced out because she showed the kids Michelangelo's David. He wasn't able to fully explain why she was forced out, however, but in his interview with Slate he reiterated his idea that the parents are always right. "The rights of parents, that trumps the rights of kids," he told Slate. "Teachers are the experts? Teachers have all the knowledge? Are you kidding me? I know lots of teachers that are very good, but to suggest they are the authorities, you're on better drugs than me." …

New 'sextortion' documentary includes disputed and overhyped claims : NPR

The film focuses on the dangers of trusting strangers online. But it appears that law enforcement officials and other experts featured in the film were unaware of the filmmakers' past work giving a platform to a conspiracy theorist.

Experts on child sex abuse and human trafficking tell NPR that the film could leave viewers with an incomplete and exaggerated portrait of this threat to minors. They fear the film's portrayal of the crime could hinder harm reduction efforts by skewing public perception and even fueling conspiracy theories about rampant child victimization…

In the film, he compares narcotics addictions to pornography addiction and claims that the human brain develops a tolerance to sexual images that may lead to the consumption of illegal forms of pornography like "rape porn or the child pornography."

That claim is unsubstantiated and "harmful," says Nicole Prause, a senior statistician at UCLA who studies neuroscience and sexual psychophysiology as well as alcohol and opiate addiction. She explains that addiction to narcotics works very differently in the brain than other compulsive behaviors. They are different problems that require different treatments…

In Sextortion, Doan goes on to describe what he calls "virtual autism" caused by overuse of digital media, and he claims that by 2025, "scientists and physicians project" that 1 in 2 children will be diagnosed with autism. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that in 2018, the prevalence of autism was about 1 in 44 children…

In West Virginia, a bill outlawing all sexually oriented businesses is on the docket, with a definition that includes art studios with nude models and wrestling arenas.
