Trump’s policy mayhem is making even the Maga faithful consider walking away

In July, just four months before the midterm elections, these signs of voter discontent all the way through to Trump’s core partisans might presage a devastating Blue Wave to dramatically reconfigure the political profile of Congress. And yet, for all the damage caused by Trump’s policies on the American people, Americans are not quite convinced that Democrats would do any better...

Al and Mark Leibovich on The Midterm Landscape (Al Franken podcast)

We're joined by our friend Mark Leibovich of The Atlantic to break down Trump's sinking approval ratings, the approaching midterms, and whether Democrats are overconfident.

We begin by looking at Trump and whether or not his party is feeling demoralized. Al thinks they certainly should be.

We then discuss the shape of the Senate, where Democrats need to win a net of 4 seats to take control, and the House, where Democrats seem to be on track.

Given the close races and election tampering from Trump and the GOP, how worried should Democrats be? And IF they take back Congress, what should their priorities be? Al and Mark agree that the House should leave impeachment alone.

Look how much Canadians hate the United States now - POLITICO

In survey question after survey question, Canadians say the U.S. no longer reflects their values, is more likely to provoke conflict than to prevent it and, as a result, is pushing Canada to consider closer ties with other global powers — including overtures to China that would have seemed unthinkable only a couple of years ago...

Gallup to stop tracking presidential approval ratings after 88 years

Trump has been dogged in his pursuit against polling organizations and media companies that portray him negatively. In January, after the New York Times released a new poll finding the president's approval rating was 40%, falling three percentage points since September 2025, he threatened to expand his pre-existing lawsuit for defamation...

ICE Shootings Are Freaking Out the GOP. They’re Afraid to Tell Trump. - POLITICO

They are concerned more protests to the bloodshed may beget additional incidents, have little faith in DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and, from a raw political standpoint, worry the party has squandered the best issues it had when voters were otherwise frustrated with the cost of living: the border and public order...
