Sandy Hook Families Win Major Settlement (Opening Arguments podcast OA570)

Today we have two very significant legal settlements in the news to break down! The families of Sandy Hook victims settled with Remington, but based on the terrible state of the law, this wasn’t a guarantee. Andrew explains how it happened! In a somewhat parallel settlement, a victim of Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein settled, but only because of an interesting ruling on a motion to dismiss. Before that. we’ve got updates on oral arguments in the NY AG motion to quash, the NFL hiring Loretta Lynch & other NFL stuff, the bizarre Durham filing, and the 5th Circuit Injunction related to vaccines and airlines. And then, some Cardi B stuff. So much news!

…One ad showed an image of the Bushmaster with the words "Consider your man card reissued." Another included the phrase, "Forces of opposition, bow down. You are single-handedly outnumbered."… 
…The Sandy Hook suit and the litigation it could now encourage will put more information in the public's hands about the corporate behavior of gunmakers. This, in turn, could begin to change the gun debate in fundamental ways…

Supreme Court refuses to hear Remington's appeal in lawsuit from Sandy Hook victims | TheHill

The Supreme Court has refused to listen to the appeal of gunmaker Remington in the 2014 lawsuit brought forward by a survivor and families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. The refusal of the appeal means that the lawsuit — which alleges that Remington should have never sold to the public a weapon as dangerous as the AR-15 style rifle used in the shooting — can move forward to trial.
