Nebraska Lawmaker: Atheists Should Promote Religion Since It Keeps Us “In Line” | Hemant Mehta | Friendly Atheist | Patheos
Nebraska State Sen. Steve Erdman recently introduced a bill, LB73, which would require public schools to display the phrase “In God We Trust” in “each classroom or in another prominent place in each school building where each student shall be able to see and read it each day school is in session.”
It’s yet another Project Blitz-fueled attempt to stick God in the public schools, though Erdman insisted, not very convincingly, that his bill had “nothing to do with religion.”....

“In God We Trust” License Plate Funds Christian Hate Group | Hemant Mehta | Friendly Atheist | Patheos - AZ Atheist Lawmaker
If you want to buy the specialty “In God We Trust” license plate in Arizona, the state says that $17 of your $25 annual fee “goes to promote the national motto ‘In God We Trust’, 1st amendment rights and the heritage of this state and nation.”
That’s… not exactly up my alley. But you can see why a lot of people might want it even if they’re not Christians...

The coming decline of religious pandering in politics
A bill to put “In God We Trust” in public schools. A resolution declaring this the “Year of the Bible.” Another bill declaring that “wildlife found in this state is the property of Almighty God.” A law mandating the placement of a Ten Commandments monument on public land.
These moves are unconstitutional because the government is promoting religion. But often, they are as much a political tool as they are a religious declaration. Fortunately and at long last, we might be seeing the blunting of this political weapon.

Should we post 'In God We Trust' on public schools? | Guest column
A few Sundays ago, a 93-year-old Christian gentleman attended a discussion, sponsored by Humanists of the Treasure Coast, regarding a proposal from Florida legislators to mandate the posting of "In God We Trust" on public school buildings.
