Sen. Duckworth to block more than 1,000 military promotions unless Pentagon vows not to retaliate against Vindman - The Washington Post

A Democratic senator is blocking promotions for 1,123 senior members of the military until she gets assurances from Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper that he will not retaliate against an Army officer for his role in the past year’s impeachment inquiry of President Trump. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) said Thursday that she wants confirmation in writing from Esper that he did not or will not block the promotion of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman. Until she gets that assurance, she will maintain a hold on Senate confirmation of the hundreds of promotions. ....

The August 26, 2019, email from a senior career Pentagon official states that there was “no ongoing interagency review process with respect to USAI [Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative],” and states clearly: “Final decision rests with POTUS.”
