…not all of the people apprehended at the border are now in the U.S. That's the point; they were apprehended. There have been people (largely families with children) who've been released to await hearings assessing whether they are allowed to stay in the country and people who've evaded apprehension. But those two groups are a subset of the figures above. What's more, those immigrants waiting for immigration hearings? They are permitted to be here, muddying the determination of "legality."…
