Office of Government Ethics head: America is 'pretty close to a laughingstock at this point'

Outgoing Office of Government Ethics head Walter Shaub has made it loud and clear that he's resigning due to the agency's inability to enforce much of anything in the face of the ethics-averse Donald Trump. He will be departing explicitly to advocate for stronger ethics laws from outside the government.

Office of Government Ethics nixes Steve Bannon's 'unsigned and undated' retroactive ethics waiver

In May, four Democratic senators wrote a letter to the Office of Government Ethics probing the Trump administration's supposed "retroactive" waiver exempting Steve Bannon, poster child for White House dysfunction, from certain federal ethics rules. OGE director Walter Shaub had previously dismissed the notion of a "retroactive" ethics waiver; now the office has issued its formal response.

Short version: No, retroactive waivers for ethics violations that have already occurred are still not a thing....

In epic letter, investment fund fires law firm for enabling the Trump kleptocracy

The Wallace Global Fund is sick of pretending.

In a scathing letter, the investment fund fired its elite law firm, Morgan Lewis, for its role in enabling Donald Trump to use the presidency to line his pockets.

In January, Morgan Lewis partner Sheri Dillon publicly signed off on Trump’s plan to maintain ownership of his business empire while president. Instead, Dillon established a variety of measures that fell “well short of the steps recommended by the Office of Government Ethics.”...

Office Of Government Ethics Director Blasts Trump Plan: 'Wholly Inadequate'

In an extraordinary move, the director of the Office of Government Ethics publicly criticized Trump’s plan to separate his business interests from his presidential tenure, saying the plan Trump announced Wednesday at a news conference “doesn’t meet the standards” that other presidents, or even some of Trump’s nominees, had met.
