President-elect Donald Trump says he will nominate retired Marine Corps general James Mattis as his secretary of defense. Mattis will need a waiver from Congress in order to serve. During an election victory tour in Indiana, Trump praises the deal he struck with the Carrier corporation and warns companies who move operations overseas that they will face “consequences.” The FBI says the Ohio State attacker may have been inspired by al-Qaida. The U.S. economy added a 178,000 jobs last month. And the unemployment rate declines to the lowest level in nine years.
