We still don’t know for sure when we’ll get a COVID-19 relief package passed in Congress. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) told 1A on Thursday that she “very much” hopes Congress will hash out a deal by Friday.

During the same show, we talked with Tashonda, a mother from Houston who is at risk of eviction. “I need help. The stimulus check helped us get along, but it’s not enough,” she said.

President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.) for Secretary of the Interior. If confirmed, she will be the first Indigenous woman to hold a Cabinet Secretary post. Julian Brave NoiseCat is a journalist and activist who rallied support for Haaland’s nomination.

Plus, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout started this week. Although frontline workers have started getting it, Dr. Anthony Fauci stressed that many of us will still need to stay home for the holidays and continue social distancing.
