So is it speculative to talk about a future Russian collapse? Yes. Is there evidence it is imminent? No. 

But in many ways that's the problem: when authoritarian regimes implode, they tend to do so very quickly, and with little warning. Hence in the Russian case, it's important to consider all possible eventualities, even if they might appear implausible at the moment...
