Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded with a 21-second silence after he was asked for his thoughts on how President Donald Trump is responding to protests in the U.S.
In France, thousands of demonstrators defied a ban on large gatherings in order to protest. Paris police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. Thousands also protested in London, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson and British police condemned the killing of George Floyd. Additionally, Pope Francis spoke up to decry “the sin of racism” and prayed for George Floyd.
Meanwhile, the U.S. will ban passenger flights from China, starting on June 16. U.K. Prime Minister Johnson is threatening to change British immigration policies to offer citizenship to millions in Hong Kong if China imposes new security laws.
And the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging. Brazil saw a record number of coronavirus deaths this week.
