UK bans crypto donations to political parties in bid to curb foreign influence | PBS News

Starmer told lawmakers that "we will act decisively to protect our democracy" from outside meddling. "That will include a moratorium on all political donations made through cryptocurrencies," he said during the weekly Prime Minister's Questions session in the House of Commons...

UK security adviser attended US-Iran talks and judged deal was within reach

Britain's national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, attended the final talks between the US and Iran and judged that the offer made by Tehran on its nuclear programme was significant enough to prevent a rush to war, the Guardian can reveal.

Powell thought progress had been made in Geneva in late February and that the deal proposed by Iran was "surprising", according to sources.

Two days after the talks ended, and after a date had been agreed for a further round of technical talks in Vienna, the US and Israel launched the attack on Iran...

Trump derides Newsom and calls his UK deal 'inappropriate' - POLITICO

Trump's remarks came shortly after Newsom signed a memorandum of understanding in London with U.K. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband pledging cooperation on clean energy technologies, including offshore wind. The agreement also aims to expand access for British firms, including Octopus Energy, to California's market and to boost collaboration between research institutions on both sides of the Atlantic...

MPs warn that UK agreements with Donald Trump are ‘built on sand’

Ministers and senior MPs have warned that the UK's agreements with Donald Trump are "built on sand" after the Guardian established that the deal to avoid drug tariffs has no underlying text beyond limited headline terms.

The "milestone" US-UK deal announced this month on pharmaceuticals, which will mean the NHS pays more for medicines in exchange for a promise of zero tariffs on the industry, still lacks a legal footing beyond top lines contained in two government press releases...

UK will transfer £2.5bn of Abramovich cash to Ukraine fund, Starmer says

Moscow has said that using the assets is theft and has threatened to seize European private investors' holdings in Russia. Plans under discussion mean the EU would provide an initial €90bn loan for Ukraine – using the cash at Euroclear, but Russia's claim on the funds would remain untouched. Ukraine would only repay the money if and when Russia agreed to pay reparations...

Racism returning to UK politics – and people are very scared, says Starmer

Starmer vowed to "fight" anyone who argued that people who were not white could not be English or British and that families who had lived in the UK for generations should be deported, saying people promoting such views were "an enemy of national renewal".

"If you incite racist violence and hatred, that is not expressing concern: it's criminal. This party – this great party – is proud of our flags, yet if they are painted alongside graffiti, telling a Chinese takeaway owner to 'go home', that's not pride; that's racism," he told activists...

Britain to offer troops to defend Ukraine’s skies and ports in Pentagon talks

Wednesday's planning sessions at the Pentagon are being closely watched for any signs of what the US would be willing to commit. Trump insisted on Tuesday they would not involve American troops on the ground, telling Fox News: "You have my assurance [on that], and I'm president."

But Britain is also planning to use the meetings to spell out to the Trump administration what it is willing to do to protect Ukraine should a peace deal be signed. Officials say British forces could be deployed to help with logistics in protecting Ukrainian airspace and ports, but not into situations that could risk combat with Russia...

Prayer and prosecutions: the US ‘hate group’ waging war over Britain’s abortion clinic buffer zones | Abortion | The Guardian

In all the cases, at the centre of the ADF's publicity is the idea that silent prayer is being criminalised – and people's right to freedom of religion is being eroded. But Clarke says this is a distraction. "The thing they try to push is that it's just 'silently praying': you might be walking down the road minding your business and a police officer leaps out.

But that's not how it works. These campaigners seek out abortion clinics and they stand directly outside," she says…

She said the attempt to focus on "silent prayer" and freedom of speech and religion appeared to be a "deliberate strategy by the anti-abortion movement". "They are still free to pray and say what they want about abortion. They are just asking them to move 100m down the street."…
