The Simple Truth About Human Potential

Humanism is a nonreligious worldview that centers human dignity, freedom of thought, and responsibility to one another.

In this first video of Humanism 101, leaders from the American Humanist Association introduce what humanism means, what humanists believe, and why millions of people already live by humanist values without realizing there’s a name for it. Featuring Fish Stark, Executive Director, Candace Gorham, President, and Jake Via, Organizing Director.

Humanism rejects the idea that morality requires religion and instead emphasizes ethics rooted in compassion, reason, and shared humanity. Humanists believe science helps us understand what’s real, while empathy and justice guide how we treat others. Humanism supports democracy, human rights, freedom of belief, and the idea that people working together can solve real-world problems.

If you’ve ever searched for ethics without religion, secular humanism, or a values-based philosophy grounded in human potential, this video is for you.
