It runs contrary to our collective, basic and firmly embedded civic understanding that the Supreme Court has the last word on what the law is in this country, for better or worse. Americans may not like it — they frequently and at times vocally do not — but it is a broadly accepted fact of American governance, and Vance's evident willingness to reject it is worrisome…
