Justice Dept. opens civil rights probe into Trenton, N.J., police - The Washington Post

Justice officials cited allegations that officers used excessive force against residents stopped for minor traffic offenses, even in cases where they complied with commands and were not resisting. In some cases, they said, officers escalated confrontations with residents who attempted to lawfully observe and record their actions… 

"These allegations are serious and credible," she told reporters during an online news conference. "We recognize the challenges that Trenton and [the police] face in addressing violent crime. But meeting these challenges requires confidence by the public that the police are committed to protecting them. It requires the assurance that police do not hold themselves above the law."…
