George Floyd’s brother testified in Congress this week as lawmakers considered a comprehensive bill to overhaul law enforcement. Philonise Floyd appeared on Capitol Hill just a single day after burying his brother.

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he would oppose any effort to rename U.S. military bases named after Confederate generals or officials. Defense Secretary Mark Esper and U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy are reportedly open to doing so.

And inspired by nationwide protests against police brutality, government officials across the country are moving to ban chokeholds as a method of restraint used by police officers.
