On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced, just a week before a hotly contested election, that if reelected he would extend Israeli sovereignty over parts of the West Bank. In April he promised to advance sovereignty — which is akin to annexation — over all settlements.
