Action Alert! Reminder Your Lawmakers That This Saturday Is Constitution Day!

This Saturday is Constitution Day! On September 17, 1787, our Founding Fathers signed the document which established the framework for our democracy: the United States Constitution. Today, we’re asking you to take action by reminding your state and federal lawmakers that when they took their oath of office they swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” This includes upholding the first 16 words of the First Amendment which read: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” Constitution Day is a great opportunity for secular Americans to connect with their lawmakers by reminding them of the document which lies at the heart of American democracy and protects all our rights, including our freedom of, and from, religion.

In this election year there are many policy issues to be debated and addressed. What every candidate from every party should be able to agree on is that our Constitution is not on the ballot in November. You can take action by reminding your state and federal lawmakers that 229 years ago this Saturday, our Founding Fathers signed the document that guarantees the freedom for Americans of every faith and none.
